If the streets have you, POCAAN wants you involved with this program. You are valuable to our community. If you are taking risks, we can help you focus on new ideas you may want to learn about that keep you safer. Come to our Safety Planning Group Workshops: Eat, learn, share, & strategize. Develop your own safety plan. Get support & involve your personal support network in your safety plan. Get a using buddy or another buddy who cares about you. You are NOT alone out there.
Our Mission
To improve the health status, self-sufficiency and social support of minority opiate, crack and alcohol abusers in King County by addressing system and financial barriers to substance abuse treatment.
Our Vision
BTC - Focus on Freedom partners with treatment providers and health providers, recovery leaders, harm reduction leaders, prevention specialists, and community member experts on addiction and street life, as well as addicts to re-allign innovative programming with community vision for the health and well-being of substance users among communities of color.

HARM REDUCTION / PRE-TREATMENT SERVICES
1st Month
Phase 1: After 2 Thursday Group Workshops (12:00- 1:30) you will have determined what's best for you; what will keep you alive out there on the streets. Safety Planning Group Workshops relate HIV/AIDS to other STD's, drug use, street life, risk-taking behaviors and overall health and your survival.
Phase 2: A once weekly individual session for two weeks - to hook up with your Prevention Specialist who will assist you with your plans & provide support referrals, and a Re-Affirmations social event to re-affirm what you do to keep safe, what works for you. Support networks of partners, friends, family, using buddies all are invited to dinner, music, fun, games and sharing at the Afternoon Re-Affirmations.
Phase 3: Maintaining contact with your Peer Prevention Specialist who will help you further the plans you made for yourself during phases 1 & 2.
2nd Month - 4th Month
Phase 4: More individual sessions for your support if you want them. Follow-up contact support provided to you by your Peer Prevention Specialist. We invite you to ongoing Afternoon Re-Affirmations social events.
6th Week in the 4 Month Block - Rite of Passage Event
Just come back to the 2nd Afternoon Re-Affirmations event where we celebrate your achievements and celebrate a rite of passage for all who choose to go onto either outpatient methadone or non-methadone treatment if you want it. Share this exciting afternoon with your support network and program staff.
End of 4th Month - You are a BTC Program Graduate
Join us at the Quarterly Breaking the Chains - Focus on Freedom Program Graduation.
Street life & addiction wear people out physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Your health and spirit is sabotaged at all levels at all times. This graduation celebrates people who recognized how essential time-out can be. Time-out for Self Care: restoring physical health and spiritual resiliency. Time out: to recover soul essence, make real achievements towards goals of stability and health and establishing new healthy relationships. Join us for an uplifting program graduation dinner, fun and powerful truth-telling.
Twice Yearly (April & October)
Alumni Celebration & Treatment Graduation - A culmination event integrating harm reduction graduates with treatment graduates. Accompany us in a very special evening for sharing of gifts and milestones; a celebration of remarkable achievements and miracles. The sense of brotherhood and sisterhood deepens & broadens in this community graduation event. Welcome back harm reduction graduates and offer special recognition to treatment graduates at this gala affair.
The October event will mark an annual POCAAN salute to recovery month.
