HIV Testing 2
This program works with communities of color to advocate and ensure equitable access to HIV/AIDS testing, education, prevention, and health care resources.

POCAAN was originally founded for the express purpose of responding to an HIV/AIDS epidemic that was having and continues to have a devastating impact on communities of color. As such, our HIV/STI Mobile Testing program reflects our roots, as well as our ongoing commitment to underserved African-American, Latino, Native American, and Asian/Pacific Islander communities in Washington state.

Our continued mission is to provide these communities of color with the same level of resources and information available in a format that is accessible, and addresses the language and socio-economic barriers they face. Our testing procedures include post-test consultation, as we believe that a comprehensive and sex-positive conversation is a better guide for maintaining healthy sexual habits in the future.

In the event that a rapid test is reactive to the HIV antibodies, our trained prevention specialists will provide an immediate on-site blood draw which will be sent to a lab for a definitive confirmatory analysis. Individuals will also be referred to POCAAN's KONNECT program to provide assistance and counseling for individuals who need help managing their HIV status.

Funding for this program has been made available as a result of a grant award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, and Public Health, Seattle and King County.
